Sara Alexander, Executive DirectorSara Alexander

A Bay Area native, Sara has been involved in community development since her high school days at Castilleja School. Sara received her bachelor’s degree from Whitman College with a major in psychology, and within five weeks of graduation she joined the Peace Corps as a volunteer in Ecuador. Having experienced the daily challenges of life and seeing the positive contribution that one person can make by helping others, Sara returned home to California to pursue her Masters in Public Administration from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

After receiving her Masters, Sara worked with the international relief and development organization, Catholic Relief Services. She worked in Ghana, Afghanistan, India and Laos. She has been fortunate to support governments, local organizations, and communities to advocate for their rights and lead dignified lives.  To do this, she helped country programs attract qualified staff and donors to meet the growing needs across these countries.

Sara brings her experience in growing and managing programs to There With Care.  Her approach to non-profit leadership is rooted in mobilizing the community to help support those in need, a tenet of There With Care’s philosophy.  Sara is excited to be an active part of her Bay Area community and is motivated by the love shown by volunteers, staff, and families.
